London Projects

The Paternoster Square project is in the heart of London and aside from the works that occurred for the Olympics, there haven’t been any larger developments in central London in the past 20 years. Ian was involved with the new office building on the corner of Cheapside and Queens Head passage immediately adjacent St Pauls tube station. This landmark development owned by Mitsubishi Estates is immediately adjacent St Pauls cathedral. Ian was responsible for the mechanical services on the project and was involved from concept design to completion. The building includes 4 pipe fan coil units connected to reticulated chilled and heating water. Ian was involved in the project from 2001 to 2004.

The new Stone Henge visitors centre was Architecturally designed by Denton Corker Marshall in London. NDY were engaged to perform the building services design. The project was originally won by DCM by a design competition funded by the lotteries commission in the UK. Ian was involved in designing the displacement cooling systems for the theatre and exhibition spaces. The project was delayed due to planning and roads approvals to the changes required to make it a reality. The project was put on hold in 2006 and was ultimately completed in 2013.

Ian was the lead mechanical engineer on the 40,000m2 John Lewis Department store in the Trafford Centre in Manchester. The architecture was jointly performed by Manchester Architect Leach Rhodes Walker and John Lewis internal architectural team. The mechanical air conditioning system included several large custom designed rooftop package units which weighed approximately 10 tonne each and provided cooling and ventilation to the sales floors. The back of house areas were cooled separately using chilled water and dedicated heating water circuits.
