Perth Children’s Hospital
Western Australian Projects
Ian was based on site at the Perth Children’s Hospital in John Hollands project office, during the part of the construction phase. The project commenced in 2012 and completed in 2018. Ian was based at the project site office in 2015 and 2016. Ians role was to perform mechanical inspections of the installation and assist John Holland by responding to queries from the sub contractors including reviewing the workshop drawings that were produced.
James was the project lead for the completion of the 7-Day Fault Free Testing of all the Building Services systems for the New Perth Children’s Hospital in 2019. James’ role was to coordinate the team, report progress to John Holland and to be responsible for the production of Testing Strategies for State Approval prior to the subsequent implementation and reporting of the Test Results. All systems had to be successfully tested for a period of 7 days before Practical Completion could be awarded and occupation of the Hospital could commence.
Western Australia Police Stations
Ian was responsible for the Mechanical Design of a number of WA Police Stations in remote areas of Western Australia. Broome Police Station, Warburton Police Station, Warakurna Multi Function Police Station, Blackstone Multi Function Police Station, Kalumburu Multi Function Police Station, Bidyadanga Multi Function Police Station, Balgo Multi Function Police Station, Buringurrah Multi Function Police Station, Looma Multi Function Police Station, Dampier Peninsula (Cape Levique) Multi Function Police Station, Warmun Multi Function Police Station and Jiggalong Multi Function Police Station.
These stations with the exception of Broome were built in Perth using modular construction techniques. The building services were designed in such a way as to accommodate the installation in Perth and the connection of the modules on site.
In addition to the above, Ian was involved in the WA Police Department asset survey in 2014 and surveyed a number of WA Police facilities in Perth to record their building assets.
DFES Facilities in Western Australia
Ian has been involved in a number of facilities for the Department of Fire and Emergency Services during his employment with NDY. Ian was the mechanical designer for the following facilities; Bunbury DFES Facility, Bunbury Airport Helicopter base for DFES, Broome DFES, Derby Volunteer Fire Brigade facility, Kununurra Volunteer Fire Brigade facility
Perth Zoo
Performed the design for the upgrades to the Perth zoo administration building and kiosk. The existing evaporative cooling units will be removed and replaced with reverse cycle air conditioning to provide customers of the zoo with a more comfortable experience. This will also provide staff with a greater level of comfort in their work environment.
Curtin University
Engaged on numerous projects on the Curtin University Campus to assist with alterations to their existing suite of buildings in bring them up to a current standard of energy efficiency and maintainability to which the University aspires. Buildings include;

Rushton Park
Ian was the Mechanical Engineer on the Rushton Park sporting ground new pavilion which is the home of the Peel Thunder WAFL team. The new pavilion includes a series of function rooms, bar spaces, changerooms, press rooms, commentating boxes and offices for the team management. Ian was involved from concept design through to commissioning of the facilities services (all disciplines). Ian also assisted the building manager (from the City of Mandurah) in post completion fine tuning of the facility systems to optimise the energy consumption and general operations.
Meadow Springs Community Centre
Ian was the Mechanical Engineer on the Meadow Springs new sporting ground and pavilion in Meadow Springs (near Mandurah). The new pavilion includes a series of function/bar spaces, changerooms and a retail outlet. Ian was involved from concept design through to commissioning of the facilities services. Ian also assisted the building manager (from the City of Mandurah) in post completion fine tuning of the facility systems to optimise the energy consumption and general operations.
Cockburn Depot
Ian was the mechanical engineer on the City of Cockburn’s new Office building at their depot facility. The facilities at the depot include; Rangers office, Co-Safe office and operations centre, dog and cat pound facility. Ian was involved in the project from concept design through the detail design and construction.
John Leckie Pavillion, Nedlands
The John Leckie Pavilion is an existing building which was due for a new lease of life. The works included new air conditioning and ventilation systems to the hall and upgraded kitchen and changeroom facilities. Ian was the Mechanical Engineer on the upgraded facility. Ian was involved from concept design through to commissioning of the mechanical services.
Christchurch Grammar
Engaged by PS Structures as Commissioning Manager to assist with the delivery of the Mechanical Services at Christchurch College. The project consists of a north and south wing joined by a common space between. The three-storey building commenced construction in 2017 and is due for completion in August 2018.
Armadale Aquatic Centre
Engaged by PS Structures as Commissioning Manager to assist with the delivery of the Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulics, Fire and Geothermal systems at Armadale Aquatic Centre.
Carine Secondary School Upgrades
Engaged by PS Structures as Commissioning Manager to assist with the delivery of the Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulics and Fire systems at Carine Secondary School
Mazenod College
Mazenod College recently built a new Design and Technology centre at the school. It included woodworking and metalworking facilities as well as state of the art CNC metalworking machines, electronics room and design and technology study rooms. We were supporting the construction process with the Architect – Saleeba Adams.
Further to this, Mazenod college also upgraded the toilet, changeroom and shower block in the boarding house for which we performed the design works.
Bentley Plaza Health Clinic – Australasian Health
Nominated Mechanical services designer for the Bentley Plaza Health Clinic. The clinic included Operating Theatre, Procedure, Sterile storage and Recovery areas. The facility was subject to the requirements of the WA Health Facility Guidelines and the LARU review team signoff.
480 Hay Street
Ian was seconded to BGC during the design phase of the project. Ian’s role was to review the documentation and comment on the buildability, ability to commission, and to work with the designers to finalise the design documentation and issue it for tender to sub-contractors. Ian’s role was completed once the Mechanical and Electrical sub-contractor tenders were completed, the contractors selected and engaged. Ian also assisted in the recruitment of a Building Services Manager for BGC and the run into the new role once engaged.
The 480 Hay Street project includes 34,450sqm of office space. 480 Hay is designed to target a 5-Star GreenStar Energy Rating and a 5-Star NABERS Energy Rating.
Australian Submarine Corporation
James was responsible for the verification of the D&C Contractors Building Services designs to meet the NCC/ BCA, Australian Standard and Department of Defence Operational Requirements
BHP Covid-19 Testing Facility
James was the Lead Engineer for the design of the Mechanical Ventilation systems for a new on-site testing facility that utilised positive and negative pressure regimes to reduce the likelihood of airborne transmission from potentially Covid-positive incoming personnel.
Sodexo Covid-19 Response
James was the Lead Engineer for the design of a mobile ventilation dilution system to be implemented as a response to any positive Covid-19 tests on all Rio Tinto Sites in WA. The system was to enable Sodexo to complete a reactive deep clean prior to reoccupation of the accommodation rooms an common use areas. This system won the award for collaboraion at the FMA Awards 2020.

Engaged by the owners of 280 Stirling Highway to assist in the design of the Mechanical Services to this heritage listed building
