Interstate Projects

Ian Harwood was part of the team whilst at NDY who were engaged by Lendlease to perform the design for the three Barangaroo towers at Darling Harbour.

The project commenced construction in 2013 until 2016. Ian was involved in the project throughout 2014. During this part of the construction phase, there were a number of areas of the buildings that Ian was charged with developing the mechanical services design for.

These included the lobbies and numerous base build services in order to accommodation the leasing agreements with the tenants. Ian travelled from Perth to Sydney on a weekly basis in order to attend meetings and perform site inspections through this time. Ian worked closely with the architects at Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners (RSHP)and the project managers at Lendlease to arrive at solutions that achieved the architectural appeal required by the architects and the building functionality and goals desired by Lendlease.

Ian was responsible for production of the design specifications for the Westconnex tunnel ventilation systems. In addition the tunnel includes numerous communications rooms and three substations which were air conditioned. Ian was responsible for the specification of the equipment. The Westconnex Tunnel M4East section spans between Homebush and Haberfield. NDY were engaged by CSJ (CBP Contractors, Samsung and John Holland JV) to perform the designs for the tunnel ventilation and in ground buildings air conditioning. Ian was involved on the project, travelling to Sydney during 2016 and 2017.

Ian Harwood worked on the Sydney ICC Project whilst employed by NDY.

The Sydney International Convention, Exhibition and Entertainment Precinct now known as the Sydney ICC includes three buildings at Darling Harbour. Ian’s role was Independent Verifier and Commissioning working directly for Infrastructure NSW. This project was constructed by Lendless who had engaged AECOM to preform the detail design. Lendless were engaged under a Design, Build, Own, Operate arrangement.

The three interconnected buildings are the Theatre, Exhibition Centre and the Convention Centre overlooking Tumbalong Park at Cockle Bay, Darling Harbour. The three key buildings were served from a central cooling plant. Each building contained its own independent hydraulics and fire system (with interlinking arms)

The role as independent verifier was to review the design documentation produced by Lendless against the design brief. This process had numerous stages of review.

Once the project commenced on site, the role was to review the installations met the infrastructure NSW brief and the life-cycle requirements that were included. In addition Ian was present for the individual systems commissioning, integrated systems testing and black building testing.
